MADDISON TROPHY CONTEST. RESULTS OF OPENING ROUNDS. (Special to the "Guardian.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The first three rounds of the Maddison Trophy competition for the singles championship of the Christchurch Bowling Centre were played on the Christchurch and Beckenham greens yesterday afternoon. The greens were in excellent order and the weather conditions were favourable until late in the afternoon when light rain fell. Twenty-five clubs were represented in the and after the third round the following were left in : —E. Monk (Kaiapoi Working Men's Club), W. H. Higgins (Ashburton), W. Wardell. (Spreydon), and R. Mathieson (Allenton). The semi-final and final games will be played on the Christchurch green next Thursday afternoon. The competition is restricted to the singles champions of clubs affiliated to the Christchurch Centre, and it has been held every year since the 1908-9 season. The trophy was presented to the centre by the late Mr J. C. Maddison who was a member of the Christchurch Club for many years. Following are the results : Christchurch Green. First Round.
