JUDGMENT BY CONSENT
MONEY FOR PASSAGE TO ENGLAND'. (Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 14. Judgment by consent was entered by the Magistrate - to-day in a claim by W. H. le Suer. public servant, for £l2 10s, \ against Harold Bradley Brownrigg: The statement of claim stated that defendant and his agents represented to plaintiff that there existed a company known as "Overseas Passages, Ltd,," which had available passages from Auckland to Southampton on a ship leaving about the middle of February. Single fares ranged Troin £25 to £32, and were to be free of exchange. Plaintiff paid £l2 10s lis deposits for himself, wife, and child. Counsel for plaintiff said ine claim was. made against Brownrigg oecausc the alleged company did not exist. The whole thing appeared to 6e an organised swindle. Counsel for "defendant, who did not appear, consented to judgment for £5,; but said he was instructed to repudiate any suggestion of fraud. The representations were not made by defendant, but by.another person, without defendant's knowledge or authority. The Magistrate gave judgment for £l2 10s, plus £6 8s 2d costs.
