ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF SOCIETY. (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 14. The annual conference oi the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand opened in Wellington to-day. Hie Mayor, Mr T. C. A. Hislop, in opening the conference, said it was Jus duty to declare open the new school oi pharmacy and laboratory, which marked the progress of a profession whicli had always maintained a high standd Mr Edward Smith (Auckland) president of the Pharmacy Board, said the building was a monument to the foresight of those who had conserved the funds from "the beginning. They were proud of the first college of pharmacy in New Zealand. It was as well fitted and lighted as the one' at the .Sydney University. Mr Smith added that we were going through changing times. He did not believe we \would ever got back to the old normal. "We must accnstomo ourselves to the changing conditions, anci strive to make them bettor," he said. They must resolve to go forward and endeavour to raise the standard of the profession and the society even higher than it had been in the past. Concluding, Mr 'Smith said the sccietv and the school wore selfsupporting. Thev had no subsidy, no State-aid, and would be able to continue on a self-supporting basis. . The past president. Mr Fred Castle, hoped that the board would keep up the educational side and advance with the progress of scientific ideas.
