ROAD BOARDS.

UPPER ASHBURTON DISTRICT t ~ The Upper Ashburton Road Board met yesterday, when there were present —Messrs H. Morris (in the chair), R. Houston, S. H. LiH7 R- J- Mulligan and S. C. Curd. The financial statement showed a debit balance of £424 11s 4d. It was decided to clear up a number of gravel pits a nd to attend' to Thompson’s Trpck Road. It was agreed to make a final extension to September 30 of the rebate of 12£ per cent, on rates for the year ending March 31, 1931. THE WAKANUI DISTRICT. The Wakanui Road Board met yesterday, when there wore present Messrs F. Frampton (chairman), J. Watson, A. Bennett, and A. Gregory. at was agreed to support representations made to the Government that heavy motor vehicles owned by farmers and used solely for the. transport of the individual farmer’s produce and supplies be exempted from the payment of heavy traffic foes so far as vehicles up to two tens were concerned. It was decided to attend a ccnference between the Road Boards and the Ashburton County Council in regard to a discussion with the object of ascertaining if the abolition of the boards could be brought about, at the same time retaining efficiency and economy. Arrangements .were made for the carrying out of maintenance work on Butterick’s, Elgin. Le Breton’s and Buckley’s Roads.
