GERMAN ELECTIONS

THE STATE OF PARTIES. NAZIS OCCUPY 230 SEATS. OTHER SECTIONS NUMBER 334. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This T>ay, 9.40 a.m.) .BERLIN, August 1. The state of parties is:— Nazis ... ... ••• 230 (Socialists « ... ••• 133 Communists 89 Centre ~'. 76 Nationalists 37 Bavarian Peoples ... 22 German Nationalist Peoples and other small groups ... ••• 45 Christian Socialists ... 4 Peasants 2 Farmers' Leagues ;.. 2 MURDEREROUS VENGEANCE. NAZIS ATTACK SOCIALISTS. (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) BERLIN, August 1. Infuriated by the results of the election, gangs of Nazis wreaked vengeance on Communists and Socialists in a series of murderous outrages. The recently-deposed Governor of Bakhrfeld was called to the door and shot in both arms. Two Socialist journalists were similarly wounded. Two Communists were shot dead in the street. , \ Incendiary bombs were thrown into the office of two Socialist newspapers. UNMANAGEABLE REICHSTAG. A SENSATIONAL PROPOSAL. UNSEATING OF COMMUNISTS. (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) LONDON, August 1. Bedlin newspapers consider that the new Reichstag will be as unmanageable as the old was, and that it will enjoy purely theoretical power while the Government and Reichswehr continue the dictatorship. General Schleicher (Minister of the Reichswehr) does not display the least disposition to hand over the reins of power to any combination of parties. The Hitlerites propound a sensational suggestion that the Communist Party should be suppressed by invalidating the claim of 89 Communist deputies to seats in the Reichstag, thus the Right Wing parties, dominated by 230 Nazis, would be assured of an absolute majority. Well-informed people believe that Hitler's compromising connection with General von Schleicher checked his triumphant career. The relative success of the Communists was a surprise. Apparently they won over many Socialists owing to the workers' disappointment at the mild behaviour of the displaced Prussian members of Cabinet Dr. Bruening was returned for Dusseldorf where the Socialists secured one seat, the Nazis four, the Communists three, and the Centre Party Six. Hitler announced that he would refuse to join any coalition. The Government has decreed a political truce till August 10. No political meetings ot any kind will be allowed. FATAL FACTION FIGHTS. NEARLY 10 DEATHS RESULT. LONDON, August 1. Apart from those at Konizsberg, numerous bomb outrages were committed against buildings belonging to Communists in Sehleswig-Holstein. Buildings were damaged though they were unoccupied, however, Thirty-five to forty deaths elsewhere in Germany are traceable to faction fights following the announcement ot the results of the election. A NAZI MANIFESTO. CONTINUANCE OF THE FIGHT (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) BERLIN, August 1. Claiming an amazing victory HenHitler (Leader of the Nazis) in a manifesto says that the Nazis have become the strongest oarty in the Reichstag and must continue to fight for bermanv's freedom. . The Brown House (the ISazi headquarters) savs that the Nazis are determined to implement the gigantic vote of 14 000,000 and nress for the right to take help, especially in view of the Bolshevist danger revealed at the election.
