BURGLARY IN SHOP.
OFFENCE AT CHRISTCHURCH. (Special to the "Guardian ") CHRISTCHURCH, August 1. Over £SO worth of goods was stolen by thieves who broke into the tobacconist's shop of Mr J. T. Cooper early on Sunday morning. The thieves were evidently practised hands and took only goods that would be easily disposed of. Their haul included over 2000 cigarettes, many tins of tobacco, pipes, shaving equipment and other articles. The shop was entered through the front door, on which a strong instrument was used. Apparently the thieves took their time and made a careful selection of goods. Most of the tobaccos taken were the most expensive typos. The cigarettes included many tins of fifty. The time of tho theft has been fixed at about 1.30 a.m. The premises where the shop is situated include tho Canberra dance hall, and there were people about until nearly that time. The shop door was found open, early on Sunday morning. Mr Cooper's shop was burgled once previously, about four years ago, when about £4O worth of goods was taken.
