TIMARU BURGLARIES.
SAMPLE ROOMS RANSACKED. iSpecial to the "Guardian.") TIMARU, August 1. Between Saturday night and the early hours of this morning the sample rooms of Bing, Harris and Company were raided by burglars and goods valued at £BB were stolen. This included £6B worth of tobacco and cigarettes and £2O worth of clothing representing men's shirts, hosiery, women s underclothing and frocks. The thieves thoroughly ransacked the premises and the goods stolen were the best of the stock. The cupboards which contained the tobacco and cigarette stocks were opened by means of a hammer and chisel. Many tins of both tobacco and cigarettes were taken, though a big supply which was standing on the floor was untouched. Entry was effected by smashing a pane in a window ten feet from the ground in a right-of-way adjoining the sample room in George Street. Thep grocery business of Mr O. \\ . Home, Church Street West., was broken into over the week-end and it is reported that from £lO to £ls was stolen.
