THE EAST ASHBURTON CLUB.
HANDICAPS FOR: TO-AIORROW
Record entries have been received for the East Ashburton Swimming 'Club’s annual carnival, which will be held in the Hampstead Memorial Baths to-mor-row evening. A total of 180 entries has been received'. There are 16 teams in the Newton Cup relay and other large entries are in the 50yds inter-club hanr dicap, in which there are, 55, and' the 25yds junior inter-club (36). The programme includes the 100yds centre championship and the lOO.vds Friedlander Cup Championship Relay. Between events, a troupe of Alaori performers from Ternuka will give items and the Ashburton Silver Band will be in attendance.
Trophies will be presented 1 at a. dance after the carnival.

BOYS’ RECORD BROKEN.
DUNEDIN, January 14. In an attempt on the New Zealand intermediate hoys’ 100 yards breaststroke record at the Kiwi Club’s carnival this evening, Reg Geddes covered the distance in 76 2-ssec, breaking the record of 77 4-ssec established by C. Heard in 1923. Walter Jarvis, in a handicap race, swam 33 1-3 yards in 16 l-ssee. ,
