THE CANTERBURY TEAM. MATCH AGAINST HAWKE’S BAY. HASTINGS, January 14. The touring Canterbury Plunket Shield cricket team began a two-days match with Hawke’s Bay at Napier today. The wicket and outfield were in excellent condition. Winning the toss Hawke’s Bay made the satisfactory total of 244, batting

for just under three and a half hours. Kavanagh played a patient innings for 60, batting confidently against air the Canterbury bowlers. T. Reaney also performed well. He was dropped befoie reaching double figures. t Canterbury reversed the usual batting order ‘and when stumps were drawn had lost six wickets for 182 runs, Powell playing a forceful innings for 78 to compile top score for the day.
