CHILDREN'S BALL AT HINDS.

MANY FINE COSTUMES. On the occasion of the children's hard-up fancy dress ball on Friday evening, the Hinds Hall presented a festive appearance. The attendance was very gratifying, the accommodation being taxed to its utmost. The children's dance entertainment from 7.30 to £.30 p.m. was much appreciated by the large number of adults present, practically every school child being in costume. Music for the children's dances was supplied by Miss Good, while for the adult dance that followed Chapman's Orchestra contributed the music and Mr G. F'arrell was M.C. , , _ The chairman of the School Committee thanked all those who had contributed toward the success of the ball. The thanks of. the committee were specially due to the judges. The judges of the costumes (Mrs Farrell, senior, Mrs Wells and Mr W. Middlemas), whose task was by no means an enviable one, made the following awards:—■ Seniors: Boys, Graeme McPherson (Cowboy); girls, Ena Berry (Red Witch). Juniors: Boys, lan Joiner (Micky the Mouse); girls, Mimi Thompson (Washerwoman).* Most original costume.—'Boys: I rev - or McGoyerin (Beer Bottle); girls: Joyce Tarbotton (The Budget). Best Dressed Couple: Basil Donaldson (Joan) and Frank Donaldson (Darby). _ . Other prize-wonners were:—Jjucicy spot waltz: Annie Lowe and ko! a Hampton; lucky spot polka: Tnxie Chisnall and Lester Mo/DowelL Other children in costume were: Annie Lowe (Negress), Rona McDowell (Hard-up), Berylle Thompson (Sandwich Man), Jean Davison (Hard-up), Jean Lowe (charwoman), Nancy Dollar (Wrong turning), Freda Donaldson (Capstan Cigarettes), Nessie McDowell (Making Ends Meet), Alma Musson (Hawaiian- Girl), Ellen Hampton (Harlequin), Monica Donaldson (Oastolax advt.), Winnie Lowe (10 per cent.
