CHARGE OF ARSON.
TAXI DRIVER FOUND GUILTY. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, May 7. The case ini which John Lewis Gunning, a taxi driver, was charged with attempted arson at W. S. Miller’s drapery shop in Dominion Road in the earlv hours of March 15, was concluded in the Supremo Court before Mr Justice Herdmnn. Evidence was given that accused was in the vicinity of the fire on the night in question. The fire brigade noticed a strong smell of methylated spirits at the scene of the fire. * Accused said he was at home on the night of the fire, and his wife corroborated his evidence. The jury found accused guilty, adding that he had been influenced hv some person or persons. Sentence was deferred.
