OCCUPIER FINED £SO. (Special to “The Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, March 19. A fine of ,-CoO, with costs, was the penalty imposed on Maurice George Morton, a range fitter, aged 66, in the Magistrate’s Court this morning for using his premises at 424, Wilson’s Road, as a common gaming house. The accused, pleaded' guilty, Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.. was on the Bench. Chief-Detective Carroll said that Morton had been carrying on business as a bookmaker for some time. His premises were visited by Detective Young and Detective Halcrow on March 17, and the usual hookmaking paraphernalia was found there. Morton had been in a. fairly big way and had been in the business for some time. He was a respectable member of the community and had been quite frank over the charge. He had not been in Court before.
