RAM AND EWE FAIR. ASHBURTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. i A DECLINE IN PRICES. ■ f A large increase in the number penned was noted at the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association's annual ram and ewe fair, which was held at the Showgrounds to-day. An increase of 209 was shown, the figures for 1930 being 845, as against 1054 this year. The quality of the yarding was excellent, though, prices showed a big decline. Last year the top price for rams was in the vicinity of 12 guineas, while at to-day's fair it was •5 guineas, secured by Mr S. O. Lemon, of Lauriston, for a pen of two. oneshear Border Leicester rams. Mr P. Lysaght, of Fairton, alsoi securedi this price for two rams of the same class and breeding. There was a large attendance of buyers and though the sale started slowly with prices about 2 to 3 guineas for high quality rams, as it progressed, prices firmed somewhat and became steady round' about 3J to 5 guineas. "Withdrawals were negligible. There was a large offering of super good style greasy crossbreds, which met strong competition, prices being fully maintained. New Zealand greasv crossbreds, Kia Ora, sold at 9d to S:]d, Manga Bjd to 73d, Waiau lOdi to 9}d.
