MAJESTIC THEATRE. _____ • A double feature programme of unusual merit is that showing finally at the Majestic to-night. "Painted Faces" and "Pointed Heels" were the titles of the pictures, but these titles do not in any way convey to a would-be patron the themes of the pictures. The programme is one of the best seen in Ashburton for many a day, old themes having been, thrown overboard in both pictures. Those who saw the film last evening thoroughly enjoyed their reproduction. "Painted Faces?' far from being a circus story, deals with the love of a clown for his pretty ward, and of a. sensational murder trial. It has a strange twist at the end that leaves the audience with a completely satisfied feeling that no better ending could have been arrived at, , In "Pointed Heels" William Powell is shown, for onte, as a man who is not a villain. The story deals interestingly with people of the stage, but is treated in a higher plane than usual. An excellent sound magazine is also on the programme.
