MOTOR CAR THEFTS.

TWO YOUTHS ACCUSED. f Special to the “Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, August 25. Keen -observation on the part of a constable and his possession of a motorcycle were responsible for the arrest on Saturday evening of two youths, who will have to answer it is stated, several charges concerning the recent series of motor-car thefts. Plain-clothes Constable Chibnall was on duty at the Central -Station on Saturday when word came from Riccarton ' that a motor-car believed to be stolen, had been seen in the borough. Constable Chibnall had his motor-cycle ready and set out to investigate the matter. Fortune favoured him for. as he was crossing Montreal Street bridge he saw passing him a touring ear which answered to description of one stolen during the week. Unobserved be turned and followed the car, waiting for it to stop. He thought that if be caught up with them .the two boys in the car might make a bolt for it and perhaps elude him, so he waited his opportunity. It came when the car pulled up in Cambridge Terrace. It was. not until a hand lay on each of their shoulders that the youths knew that the young man who had parked his motor-cycle alongside the car was a policeman. The car, No 133-991 was found to be the property of Mr Vincent Major. It bad ben removed from Cambridge Terrace, outside the Winter Show, during the week.
