Alderman McElhone has resigned the chairmanship of the Citizens’ Reform (Party in the City Council. His action is the outcome of the party’s recommendation that the salary of Mr Forbes Mac Kay be raised by £IUOU. “If' necessary,” said Alderman McElhone, “I will resign and re-con-test the seat in the Fitzroy Ward.
At a special meeting of the Sydney City Council on August 14 a resolution proposed by the Reform Party to bring the Council employees under the Public Service Reduction Act was approved, which means a cut of 8 1-3 per cent. m Labour members hotly condemned the reduction. Alderman J. Garden exclaimed: “These paupers will awake and the starving people will cry out: ‘We want food.’ 'lt’s coming, and you all know it.” _ „ ~ > At the same meeting Reform Aldermen agreed to a recommendation or the Electricity Committee to increase the salary of Mr Forbes Mac Kay, manager oj electricity department, by £IOOO to £2OOO.
