PERSONAL.
Dr. T. H. A. Valintine (DirectorGeneral of Health), who will retire from the service of the Department at the end of the present month, has been granted six months’ leave of absence on full pay (says a Wellington telegram). The. Hon. A. j. Stallworthy l (Minister of Health) stated that Dr. Valintine’s services would be retained in an advisory capacity. As yet no successor has been appointed.
Professor P. J. Hornell, the Swedish engineer, who is to report on Arapuni, is a member of an eminent firm of Swedish consulting engineers, which has carried out some 400 hydro-electric schemes, and has reported on approximately 2000 schemes of a total of 3,500,000 kilowatts, with heads up to 3000 feet, it claims to have experience in the construction of dams oil difficult foundations in Sweden, Finland and Russia up to 120,000 horse-power. The firm was established in 1902, and has a staff of 50 technical experts. Professor Horn'ell has been director of the firm for 28 years, and adjudicates in all difficult problems.
