TRAIN COLLIDES WITH CAR. TWO WOMEN INJURED. (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, This Day: A motor-car collided with the Castlecliff Railway Company's train at a crossing this morning The car was carried 80 feet by the engine, lhe driver of the car, Mr W J. Gilberd, escaped! injury but Misses E. Crease and Gladys Jones, both passengers, were injured. The former sustained a broken arm and collarbone and the latter bodily injuries. Both ladies were admitted to the hospital. . WOMAN CYCLIST KILLED. i CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. Miss Elizabeth Irvine, aged 24 was killed on Riccarton Road at b.M on Saturday evenine by t bemg knocked down by a passing motor-car. . Miss Irvine was riding a bicycle opposite St. James's Church, Lower Riccarton, when a car coming from behind her struck her, and she died almost immediately. n The driver of the car was Mr &. Mann,, farmer, of Templeton. B. INJURED ON MT. EGMONT. it . . i STRATFORD, This Day. ~ An accident occurred on Mt. Egmont yesterday, when Mr W. G. Hall, a Schoolteacher, fell on the point of an ice axe, which penetrated bis £hest. Much difficulty was experienced m brineimg him in. He was eventually taken to North Egmont House where he was attended to by ; Dr. Gordon The extent of his injuries will not be known for a few days. Three members of the rescue party are now missing, and a certain amount of anxieyt is felt. CYCLIST KILLED AT WANGANUI. WANGANUI, August 3. Mr Harold Greytown Rush, a married man with four children, was killed on Saturday evening when a bicycle he was riding collided with a service car driven by Cvril Augustus McAllister. Later McAllister was arrested on a charge of being intoxicated while m charge of a motor-car. £ (MAN'S JAW BROKEN. DUNEDIN, August 3. Mr Balfour Ferguson, a single man, aged 22, residing at Highgate. when playing for Pirates against Kaikorai, at ' Bishopscourt, fractured his jaw and received head injuries which necessitated his removal to hospital. FATAL MOTOR GRASH. AUCKLAND, August 3. At 10 o'clock last night a motor-car driven by Mr Robert John Burling, ot Taumarunui. crashed into a telegraph pole just after crossing the Takamm bridge on the Great South Road. The body of the car was partially wrecked. A passenger, Mr Charles Simons, aged about 35, believed to be single, a jeweller of Taumarunui, died from injuries a few minutes af+er the smash. The driver escaped with minor cuts.
