PETROL DEARER IN WELLINGTON. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 2. Petrol prices are up, and oil prices go up on Monday. The oil companies have not passed on the whole' of the duty. Bulk petrol is up twopence a gallon, retail and case petrol is up threepence. Lubricating oil prices, retail, from service stations from Monday, will be Is Id a pint and 2s 2d a quart, 3s 3d for three pints, 4s 3d for four ipints, 5s 3d for five points, 6s 3d lor six pints, 7s 3d for seven pints, and 8s a gallon. This last figure was the existing price. THE TAX APPROVED. WAIPUKURATJ, August 2. At a meeting of the Waipukurau County Council to-day the petrol tax was discussed at length and the following resolution was carried unanimously : ' 'This Council approves of the petrol tax, the proceeds going to assist settlers in the back portions of counties having unsubsidised roads." PROFIT FOR RETAILERS. PRICES IN CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Retailers of petrol in Christchurch are rea'ping a good harvest at the expense of motorists, Their profit is one penny a gallon more than they made before the imposition of the additional tax. The oil companies, it is stated, notified retailers that the price of bulk petrol would be advanced by twopence a gallon, they having agreed to bear one penny of the extra tax. Despite that, the retailers are selling at 2s Id and 2s, instead of at 2s and Is lid.
