One of the liveliest banquets on record took place at Hotel National, in honour of the Republican, Senor Domingo, in connection with his book, "Where Goes Spain?" Five hundred guests were present, awr- the speakers were warned ' not to' abuse the Government's new permission to hold public gatherings; but one declared that he was not going to mince words, and attacked King Alfonso, whereupon the Government official declared the banquet to be suspended, and called dozens of police, who came with drawn swords. The diners fled amid a pandemonium of wrecked tables and smashed crockery. Eight were arrested, but later were released.
