THE TRAIN HOLD-UP.

DETECTIVES' DIFFICULT TASK. TWO MEN ARRESTED. / (United Press Association —Copyright.) SYDNEY, April \9. Detectives are confronted with the difficult task of finding the bandits who held up the Mudgee train near midnight and escaped with over in notes and silver, representing portion of the railwaymen's pay. Car and cart-wheel tracks were discovered near scene to-day. They led into the bush, where a wire fence was cut, apparently by somebody anxious to avoid detection.

The police in the Penrith district came upon two men who were camped on the bank of the Nepean River. Both were arrested, one for having an unlicensed revolver, the other being charged with vagrancy. Both were remanded. A telegram has been received from Binnaway, beyond Mudgee, 200 miles from the scene of the hold-up, stating that a railway cash-box, identical with the one stolen, has been found on the side of the road, and was being- s,ent back to Sydney. It was possible for the bandits to cover this distance by car between the time of the robbery and the hour at which the cash-box was found. NO CLUE DISCOVERED. AN "GET-AWAY." (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. An all-day search by detectives in the vicinity of the Mudgee train robbery failed to reveal a single clue. The tracks discovered yesterday had no connection with the bandits, and the amazing "get-away" Of the thieves is puzzling the police. The stolen hag had cash to the value of about £IB,OOO, of which £13,000 is in cheques*- which have been cancelled.
