THE WEATHER.
CONDITIONS AT METHVEN. GOOD RAIN WOULD BE WELCOME A change to colder conditions was experienced at Methven to-day, but beyond a heavy fog, accompanied by a considerable drop in the temperature, there does not seem to be much hope of a good rain to follow. Conditions locally are not so bad as lower down country. Rain would be welcome to revive turnip and rape crops, but gen-erally-speaking there is no shortage of feed. A good autumn growth has been experienced, and frequent showers have helped, so pastures are not suffering unduly. The present is a most favourable opportunity for killing twitch, and farmers are making the most of the present dry weather. Toward the hills the farmer is really experiencing a much better season than earlier in the year, when excessive belts of rain and heavy winds played havoc with his crops. However, a good 24 hours’ rainfall would be generally welcomed by the farming community. TO-DAY'S FORECAST. The following weather forecast was issued to-day:— Indications are for southerly winds, moderate to strong. Expect dull weather, with much mist and fog in parts; showery and cool temperatures. Barometer rising.
