ESCAPE FROM FIRE.
FAMILY IN DANGER. 'Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, April 4. A farmer, his wife and three children had a narrow escape from being burned to death last night when a nine-room-ed house on Smart Road, about a mile from the Waiwakaiho bridge, New Plymouth, was burned to the ground. The house was owned by Mr J. A. Somervail and occupied by Mr F. Dent and family. The occupants of the house had retired to bed early, and at 10 o'clock were awakened by a fire at the rear of the house. The children had to be passed out of the front win- ' dows.
The spread of the flames was so rapid that nothing was saved. The furniture was insured for £175.
