ARMY OFFICER'S LAPSE. BRITISH LEGION ROBBED. LONDON. Janunry 6. "Major Harold Cheesman, formerly metropolitan secretary of the British Legion, lias been sentenced to tour months' imprisonment in the second division for misappropriating £486 belonging to the Legion. The Magistrate said it was a sad ease, but not one of sudden temptation. . , . Cheesman, speaking with emotion, told the Magistrate that the conviction would rob him of his Army rank and war decorations. He would be quite ruined. ■ . ~ "I will take my medicine, he said, "but I hope the 'Legion will take care of mv seven children." Colonel O-osfield, chairman of the executive of the Legion, subsequently stated that it did not intend that Cheesman's wife and children should want for anything. It would also try to secure him a fresh start.
