TWO MEN KILLED. CAR STRIKES MOTOR-CYCLE. (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON X., January 19. A double tragedy occurred about t.X) on Saturday evening at the junction of Xo 4 "line and Rangitikei line, four miles*'from Palmerston North, when Hector Clarence Eggleton <2B), rider o a light motor-cvcle, with Bertram Cecil Hadehurst (31) on the pillion, both residents of Bunnythorpe, were killed outright when struck broadside on hy a heavy car driven by Bache Wright Harvev, of Waverley, a farmer, who had Arthur Ernest Roy Joblin, sschool teacher, of Palmerston North, as passenger. ~. , a. The victims were riding home after hav-making, and were in the centre of'the intersection, when the car met them, carrying them about a chain. Both suffered head injuries which were instantly fatal.

THROWN FROM MOTOR-CYCLE

DUXEDIX. This Day. Mr Leo Brian was admitted to the Hospital on Saturdav with _ a severe fracture of the skull, received when he was- thrown from a motor-cycle. The injured man, who resided at Womona, was picked up on the Last Taieri Road. He has not regained consciousness.

HOSPITAL PATIENT'S SUICIDE.

HAMILTOX, This Day \ farmer, Abraham Firth Wilcock, aged 70, of Te Kowhai, was iound drowned in shallow water at the edge of Hamilton Lake on Sunday morning. He was missed from a private hospital a few hours previously. hen found he was wearing night attire. At the inquest before Mr TWvern Wilson, S.M., a-verdict of suicide by drowning.l'was returned.

FOUND WITH THROAT CUT. DUXEDIX, This Day. \lexander Francis Doull. a married man, aged SG, a farmer residing at Henley, was found, dead yesterday morning with his throat cut. He had ■been depressed through ill-health.

DEATH OF A MOTOR-CYCLIST. DUXEDIX, January IS. The adjourned inquest into the circumstances of the death of Mr Robert John Dodds, who met with an accident at Mosgiet on January 11, was held to-dav, when a verdict was re- "* turned that Dodds was killed through being aedidentally thrown from a motor-cycle. . , "If was a very distressing accident, said the Coroner, "but an accident of such a nature is likelv to happen tc any man, and especially to one who is "not in a perfect state of health. ' INJURED ON A STEAMER. CHRISTCHUROH, This Day. Captain W. Jones, of the s.s. Orewa, and a seaman, W. Ross, received bruises and abrasions of the head yesterday afternoon when they fell from the. vessel's bridge into a lifeboat Their injuries are not serious. The vessel, with a large party on board, left Lyttelton yesterday morning. Just prior to leaving Nor-West Bay, Captain Jones, Ross and G. Nelson, members of the crew, were hauling up the ship's lifeboat, when the gear carried awav, and the boat dropped back into the water. When the "ear carried away it pulled Captain Jones and Ross into the boat below, a distance of about 14 feet. Both men fell head first, and were knocked almost unconscious. AWAIKATO MAN'S DEATH. TE AWAMUTtT, This Day. The Coroner, Mr Wyvern Wilson, S M to-day continued the inquest into the death of Mr Daniel McKay Seton, who died in the "Waikato Hospital on December 18. After hearing the evidence of Susanna Muldoon, a boardmg-house-keeper, and Dr. Hiskens, a verdict was returned that death was due to acute dilation of the stomach induced bv the excessive consumption ot alcohol/ This verdict is im accordance with the evidence of a medical officer, who conducted a post-mortem examination.
