ENTERTAINMENTS

MAJESTIC THEATRE. The haunting loveliness of an old song—the fragrance of a tender romance—a love story of a Prince and a peasant girl caught in the grip of ioyal traditions—this is “The Student Prince,” the new Metro-Goldwyn-May-er picture which will be shown finally to-night.

“THE TE KOOTI TRAIL.” One of the best historical pictures ever screened in New Zealand will' be shown at the Majestic Theatre tomorrow night and at two sessions oil Thursday. This is “The Te Kooti Trail,” a gripping film that follows so closely on the actual happenings in the life of the notorious Te Kooti that at first the censor refused to release it for public screening. Some of the high lights in the film are the Mill Farm massacre, Captain Mair’s ride for life, and the shooting of Baker McLean, all filmed on the spots where they took place. In addition there will be “Under the Black Eagle,” a story of the link ’between a man and his dog.

SIR HARRY LAUDER. No greater advocate or supporter of British Films could be found than Sir Harry Lauder, and it was while starring in the production of a British ‘’•special” that he met with the accident which was directly the reason of his present visit to the . Dominion. Fractured ribs and slight internal injury resulted in his being ordered a ong sea voyage and so, accompanied by nis niece, Miss Great Lauder, he left for New Zealand. His friends and admirers had quite insistent requests, and demands for a few professional appearances were heaped on him from all parts of the country. Telegrams, letters, deputations followed him to the Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Tauipo, Southland and even Lake Te Anau, and for peace sake he agreed that at the end of his holiday he would do a brief tour if it could be arranged by Mr E. J. Carroll. Cablegrams were exchanged and thus it was that Sir Harry broke a good intention and the public of Ashburton will have an opportunity of seeing and hearing this inimitable artist at the Majestic Theater next Saturday evening. A specially fine programme of international artists lias been selected by Mr 'Carroll to support Sir Harry. The box plans will 'be opened on Thursday at The Bristol and intending patrons would be well advised to book early.
