DERBY SWEEPSTAKES.
LUCK OF SMALL BOY. HOLDER OF THE FAVOURITE. LONDON, May 27. Jimmy Gibbs, the seven-year-old holder of Craganour, the Derby favourite, in the London Stock Exchange sweepstake, has sold three-quarters of his share for £12,000, A message from Calcutta states that the Calcutta Derby sweepstake is still the biggest in the world. The subscriptions total one crore, 54 lakhs, 98,250 rupees, or £1,079,035. Even a comparatively small institution like the Allahabad Bank has obtained 2600 tickets for its clients. The chance of drawing a prize is estimated at 5000 to one.
Craganour was the victim of a mishap a few days before the race and did not start.
