500 BOXES OF BUTTER STOLEN. AN ABSCONDER FROM BAIL. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Arthur Hobbs, a carried, aged 27, was sentenced this morning for the theft of 500 boxes of butter valued at £SOO from Joseph Nathan and Company. It was stated that Hobbs had absconded from bail. The Judge said that the result of prisoner's action was unfortunate. His surety had to forfeit £IOO, but counsel said he would be reimbursed. His Honor said that prisoner was a first offender, but it was not a case in which the benefits of the First Offenders Act should be extended to him. Hobbs was Sentenced to two years' hard labour. .
