THE HIGH SCHOOL.
MEETING OF THE BOARD. FIRST TERM VACATION. The Ashburton High School Board of Governors met this morning, when there were present Messrs R. Galbraith (presiding in the absence of the chairman, Mr J. W. Bowden), M. Bruce, A. Lane, F. Frampton, J. Brown, W. T. Li 11 and R. Kennedy. * In his report the headmaster (Mr W. F. Watters) stated that the roll number was 225 (121 boys and 104 girls), and the average attendance for the past month was 207, or 92 per cent, of the roll. The first term examinations were now being held and the school would close for the vacation on May 4 and re-open on May 21. The Old Boys’ Football Club were granted the use of the grounds and gymnasium during the coming season for training purposes. The financial . statement showed a debit balance of £3150 on the loan account and a credit of £209 10s lOd on the general account. For the visiting committee, Mr Frampton reported on several requirements in the school, including more adequate beating in the lady teachers’ room.
It was decided to. attend to these matters and to procure a first aid outfit.
Messrs Lane and Galbqaith were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. It was decided to decline the request of the Baptist Bible Class members for the use of the gymnasium one night in the week, the headmaster statiim that every night of the week was already engaged.
