Messrs F. W. Watt and E. H. Childs have returned from' Hastings, where they attended the Biennial Movable Conference of the M.U., I.OjO-.F. Messrs John Brown and Murdoch Bruce have been re-appointed to the Ashburton High School Board of Governors as representatives of the Education (Department. Miss E. Stewart, who has been a member of the Ashburton Lawn Tennis Club for about 14 years, and is now shortly leaving for Christchurch, was the. guest of honour at a large social gathering of members of the club yesterday afternoon, when she was presented with a pearl necklace by the club captain (Mr W. W. Garton). In view of the pending departure of Mr Peter Stewart, the Ashburton Borough Council last evening carried a resolution placing on record appreciation of his past services to the Borough, and expressing good wishes for his future welfare. Mr Stewart some years ago was a member of the Council, being for a period chairman of the Works Committee.
