LOOKING BACK.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From "Guardian," April 12, 1903). The results of the magazine volley firing for the year ended February 28, 1903, came to hand yesterday. The Soutii ■ Canterbury Volunteers did well, heading the first half-dozen places in the Canterbury, district as follows: Timaru Port Guards 77.2, Timaru City Rifles 76.5, Temuka. Rifles 75.9, Timaru Rifles 75.9, Ashburton Guards 71.4, Ashburton Rifles 68.3. The Ashburton Mounted Rifles were 15th with 56.3. Concert.—An enjoyable concert was given in the Oddfellows' Hail' last evening before a large audience. The items given by Mrs Barber, the only lady vocalist, were much appreciated. Other items were given by Messrs F. M. Collins, A. Millar, J. Dykes, B. S. Collier, AV. E. Cookson, A. J. Bunz, and Winter Hall.
Hoc-key—A hockey match was played between Ashburton and Rangiora on the Show Grounds yesterday, and after a closely contested game, Ashburton won by.one goal to one. Mr A. Millichamp acted as referee. The visitors were afterwards entertained to dinner at the-Somerset Hotel..
