Mr J. G. Gow, of the literary staff of the "Evening Post," Wellington, arrived in Ashburton last evening, proceeding north by car this morning. Miss Beryl L. Butterick, of Wakanui, and formerly a pupil of the Ashburton High School has been awarded the Helen Macmillan Brown bursary, tenable at Canterbury College. Mr E. J. Abbot, who, for 18 months, has been. Insjiector of Permanent Ways here, left Ashburton on promotion, for Timaru to-day. He was met by his fellow officers yesterday and the stationmaster (Mr C. J. McEachen) presented him with a leather suit-case as a token of the esteem in which he is held. A crystal bowl was presented to Mrs Abbot.* „,,-?-
