HURRIED EXIT.

HOUSE BURNED AT SHANNON. (Per Press Association.) LEVIN, Tliis Day. A fire at 12.30 last flight destroyed a five-roomed house at Shannon, owned by Mr E. A. H. Osborne and occupied by Mr and Mrs F. Buckman and family. The occupants retired at 11.30 when everything appeared safe. An hour later Mr Buckman was awakened by the smell of smoke. He hastened to the back room, where his young boy was sleeping and found that. flames were bursting through the ceiling anu the boy still asleep. Mr Buckman just had time to pick the lad up with a few clothes and liurry out with him. In the meantime his wife and daughter escaped with what clothes they could gather up in their flight. The building was insured, but particulars are not available. The furniture was insured for £l5O. LOSS AT CAMBRIDGE. CAMBRIDGE, This Day. A block of old wooden buildings in Duke Street, owned by Messrs Broad and Broad were partly destroyed by fire about 3.30 this morning. Shop premises owned by Mr James Kidd, saddler, and the rear living rooms occupied by Airs Radford were destroyed, but by tlie splendid efforts of the brigade the portion of the buildings occupied by Broad and Broad, grocers and ironmongers, was saved, though their stock was slightly damaged ,by water. Insurances are- On the buildings £740, Broads stocks £4OO, both in the Sun Office; Mrs Radford’s household goods £35. Mr Kidd’s stock, which was totally destroyed, was valued at £IBO.
