SHOOTING ACCIDENT.
ARDUOUS TRIP FOR HELP. .Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Yesterday afternoon word came to Oxford from Lees Valley, through Mr D. P. Duckworth’s telephone, that Andrew Neil Henderson, third son of Mr Alex. Henderson, farmer, of Oxford, had met with a shooting accident in the back country, at a place called the Devil’s Den. This is about thirty miles from Oxford. It appears that Henderson and a companion, Colin Bassett, son of Mr C. F. Bassett, of Burnt Hill, left Oxford last Friday on a week-end shooting expedition in the ranges beyond Lees Valley. They broke camp yesterday morning, and when Bassett was putting out the fire he heard a gun shot, and found that Henderson’s rifle had accidentally gone off when he was lifting it from the ground, and had lodged a bullet in his right shoulder. Bassett, through a knowledge of first aid, was able to leave his companion fairly comfortable in the camp, when he started to obtain assistance. Travelling over very rough country on foot, it took him four hours to reach Mr Duckworth’s nlaco, some four miles auay, and to telephone to Oxford. On receiving information of the accident Mr Henderson, Dr. Burnett and several others left for the camp, which they reached-at about 9 p.m. They had to wait tUI morning before they could start on their return journey. It is understood that Henderson's injuries are not considered dangerous.
