VALEDICTORY SOCIAL.
MR E. S. BENNETT’S DEPARTURE. GATHERING AT RUAPUNA. At a valedictory social held at Ruapuna on Saturday evening in honour of Mr E. S. Bennett, who leaves shortly for the-r North Island, a large attendance of people from the surrounding districts testified -to the great popularity and high esteem in winch Mr Bennett is held. On behalf of the residents of Ruapuna, Mr G. W. Ross presented to Mr Bennett a leather suit case, and, with Mr J. Moore, expressed the regret of the district at his departure. They wished him success and happiness in his new home.
The Rev. R. Jamieson and Mr A. Lill (on behalf of the Methdist Church) and the Rev. A. D. Kirkland (on behalf of the Presbyterian Church), also eulogised the work of Mr Bennett. The Guild, of which he was president last year, handed Mr Bennett a handsome silver pencil, Mrs G, Argyle making the presentation. Mr H. Beaumont also referred to Mr Bennett’s popularity. From the Sunday School, the guest of the evening received a- copy of Mossat’s translation cf the Bible, and the recipient made suitable reply. Mr Bennett conducted his final service last evening, when the Hall was filled. He has been appointed to the Home Misison station at Waiter a. (Taranaki) and will be greatly missed from Ruapuna.
