BOXING.
I AUSTRALIAN CONTESTS. SYDNEY, January 29. At the Stadium, C. Purdy (9st 7|lb) fought a 15-round draw with Izzard (9st 7Jib). The contest was exciting, both men scoring well. The Englishman was a shade ahead up to the fifth round. The New Zealander then concentrated his attack on the body > and forced the fight. Izzard, however, proved superior at in-fighting, but fighting at long range, Purdy easily equalised matters, and at the end of the bout the referee was unable to separate the men, and declared a draw. The decision was questioned by a large section of the crowd, who thought that Purdy was entitled to win. MELBOURNE, January 29. At the Stadium, Norman Gillespie outpointed Dick Congress in a 15round contest, after a fast and clever exhibition. HEENEY-DELANEY FIGHT. NEW YORK, January 28. Delaney and Heeney, the New Zealander, each posted a forfeit of £IOOO to ensure their appearance for their 15round bout, scheduled for March 1.
