NEW NUMBER-PLATES.

REGISTRATION OF MOTORS. (Per Press Association.) CHRSTCHURCH, This Day. The question of motor-car registration crops up once again with the approach of the months of February and Alarch. Last year was the first in which two months were allowed tor the business of registration, and even then motorists as a whole allowed their plates to wait until the time limit was nearly exhausted. It is hoped that this year they will make full use ox the extra time allowed by the inclusion of the month of February. To avoid the period of rush which last year gave the accounts branch many" weary months of arrears to clear off, the periods eovei-ed by registrations in the future will be from Alay to Alay, instead of from March to Alarch. That means that an adjustment will have to be made this year, by which the licenses will be extended to Alay 1, 1929, and a proportionately heavier fee will therefore be payable. Last session of Parliament readjusted the fees payable to some extent. As a result motor-bus fees have been reduced from £5 to £3, and motor truck fees from £3 to £2. Motor-Gal’s' will pav the same as last year (£2 6s od, as will motor-cycles, their fee being 11s instead of single demonstration plates at 10s and ss, ear dealers wall be allowed to take out plates at a tee of £2 for cars and 10s for motor-cycles, which will be available for changing from one vehicle to another. This will save the dealers much expense and confusion. The new number-plates, white numbering on a brown background, piesent the fourth colour scheme that has been applied. They are made m New Zealand. Part of the Canterbury consignment Ims already arrived, and it is reported that the> numbers will vancre from 101,501 to 122,400 for cars, ancT from 19,501 to 25,300-for motorcycles.
