SNOW SHOVELS USED.
CANADIAN PARLIAMENT OPENING i PALL OF SIXTEEN INCHES. (Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 8.45 a.m.) OTTAWA, January 26. Parliament was opened at 3 o’clock this afternoon. A way to the House had to be cleared with shovels, as 16 inches of snow fell yesterday, followed ■by as.sub-zero temperature. Greater pomp than ever marked the ceremony. The Governor-General (Lord Willingdon) read the Speech from the Throne. Her Ladyship and party were on the left of the throne. Many nations were represented by their Consuls, and first the Minister from the United States was present. Mr Amery was a spectator. ' '
Mr Bennett (the new Tory leader) was in his place. The Speech indicated that trade treaties between Canada and “certain foreign countries” would be submitted to Parliament, also the question of a Canadian Ministers’ plenipotentiary to f>e sent to Paris and Tokio.
