DAMAGES FOR LIBEL.
EDITOR’S SUIT SUCCEEDS. ' * f ALLEGATION OF MANIPULATION. (Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, January 26. Mr Gwynne (editor of the “Morning Post”) was awarded £2OO damages in a libel action against Marie Stopes, arising from her letter to the Duke of Northumberland suggesting that Catholics were manipulating the newspaper. She made the assertion because the “Post” refused to continue publishing advertisements for the Society of Birth Control.
Mr Gwynne gave evidence that he did not know, prior to the case, that Catholics were the chief antagonists of birth-control.
