THE TASMAN FLIGHT.
CAPTAIN MOODY'S PLANS. (Per Pres 3 Association.) WELLINGTON, January 17. In regard to Captain Moody's proposed flight, it is stated that he intended to fly from Sydney to Wellington some weeks ago, but the action of the Commonwealth Government inpro- ; hibiting the use of a machine other 'than of the amphibian or seaplane type upset his calculations 1 . It is learned that the promoters of the Hood-Moncrieff flight only ascertained Moody's plans a week or so before their machine reached Melbourne. Moody, it is stated, was very disappointed at the turn of events. Subsequently a Sydney journal published a photograph of Moody and his machine, and stated that the mechanism, then in its crates, was up for sale. Should Captain Moody be successful in fixing the necessary floats to bring the machine up to the seaplane standard, there is every reason to assume that the flight can be attempted. It is stated that a well-known man in the Manawatu district was interested in certain financial arrangements in connection with Moody's machine. Apart from Frewen, Captain Moody was really first in the field, but he was to some 'extent forestalled by the recent tragic and unsuccessful flight of Hood and Moncrieff.
