Nurse M. J. Caird, of the County Hospital; passed the recent State examination for nurses. Nurse M.. Hart passed in the surgical and oral section.

Mr A. Byrom was this morning appointed by the Ashburton Power Board a house-wiring inspector under the House-Wiring Regulations. Colonel C. G. Powles, C.M.G.. D. 5.0., N.Z.S.C., A.D.C. to the King, has relinquished the appointment of Officer Commanding the Central Command and has been transferred to the Reserve of Officers. Sir Harold Beauchamp has been confined to his bed suffering from an attack of influenza. It will x .be some days .yet before he is able to attend to business. An Auckland telegram states that Mr A. W. O. Davies, aged 52, New Zealand chess champion, died at his home, Waterloo Quadrant, to-day.
