HEENEY AND SHARKEY. SHARKEY’S HAND INJURED. NEW YORK, January 11. When Heeney, the New Zesflander, and Sharkey meet in the ring on, Friday night the American will he under 1 a handicap, state competent observers,
by reason, of an injury to his left hand suffered in November, and a possible weakening due to heavy body punishment received during his fight with Dempsey. Sharkey claims that his hand is in good condition, but to-morrow the Boxing Commission physicians will examine the fighter, paying particular attention to tlie hand, which, at the time of the injury, had to be placed in a plaster cast. xhe American, nevertheless, reigns favourite. Sharkey is said to weigh 193 pounds, while Heeney’s weight is approximately the same.
Tlie American is considered a faster and better boxes, .but Heeney’s ability to take punishment, and his earnest desire to earn the right to meet Tunney will make him a dangerous contender.
it is understood that the New Zealander has informed Tex Rickard that if lie beats Sharkey be must be matched against the champion, although Jack Delaney has declared, he will cnaiienge Heeney. Sharkey has been actively training in Boston, while Heeney is working out at a focal gymnasium.
