ATHLETICS.

EVENING MEETING. An evening meeting, under the auspices of the Ashburton Amateur Cycling and Athletic Club was held on the Domain Oval last evening. There was an unusually large gathering of spectators. The running track was inclined to be heavy owing to recent heavy rain. The two running races were keenly contested, and provided interesting finishes. . Following are the results:— Two-Mile Cycle Race (9)—E. P. Parsons (90yds) 1, R. Coulter-(250 yds) 2, C. Shierlaw (125yds) 3. Entering the last lap seven riders remained in the race and finished in a bunch. Parsons winning by a length. 75 Yards Flat Race(B).—-R. Pellew <oyds) 1, S. Truman (3yds) 2, D. Burgess (9yds) 3. A very close finish. 220 Yards Flat Race (8) G. Robilliard (20vds) 1, S, Truman (12yds) 2, R. Pellew (18yds) 3. Robilliard headed Truman, who was a yard in front of Pellew.
