CANTERBURY RETURNS. | Three deaths, two from tuberculosis and one from scarlet fever, were reported in the returns of infectious diseases in the Canterbury and West Coast district during the week ended at noon yesterday. All the deaths and all the new cases were reported from Canterbury. Following are details of the cases:— Scarlet fever ... ... 13 Tuberculosis ... ... 8 Pneumonia ... ... 3 Pneumonic influenza ... 1 Puerperal septicaemia . 1 Food poisoning ... . ... 1 Total 27 The Year’s Figures, During 1927, 1-192 infectious and notifiable diseases were reported from the Canterbury and West Coast district. This is a net decrease of 244, and about 10 per cent, on the total for 1926. The number of cases of influenza decreased by 116, and the numbei of cases of diphtheria by 217 There were 42 more cases of scarlet fever, and 34 more cases of tuberculosis.
