VALEDICTORY.

SOCIAL AT METHVEN. The Anglican Sunday School, Meth->-ven, was filled to capacity last evening,.,. when a farewell social was tendei-edto* Mr and Mrs Allan Baxter and family on the occasion of their removal I to-j Inglewood (Taranaki), where Air Baxter is transfer-red on promotion: Dancing,., ix-.tei’spersed witji vocal items, occupied., most of the evening. Those contributing, were Miss Ferguson and Mrs J. Temple, while Aliss Ferguson and Rev. F. A. Tooley played the accompaniments. Dance music was supplied by Mr L. Allred, Airs A. Lawrence played extras,_ and Air W. Owers acted as Alaster of" Ceremonies.

The Rev. F. A. Tooley, who presided, said the gathering not only embraced the Church, but all local bodies and residents who had joined to say farewell to i.he Baxter family. Speaking; especially of Church work, he sincerely thanked Mr and Airs Baxter for their ever-ready help, and expressed the hopethat they would carry on the good work in their new home. Messrs Hawkhead (Term's) and Smith (Golf), also spoke om behalf of their respective clubs, while Air J. W. M. Dart, on behalf of other residents, eulogised, the "uests for their hearty support in. all the activities ,cf the district On behalf of the i-esidents generally, Mr Tooley then presented Mr. Baxter w.'th a handsome Westminster chiming; clock, and Mrs Baxter with a gold wristlet watch. Mr MeAnulty (president of Methven. A. and P. Association), spoke of Air Baxter’s good work as honorary auditoi 1 to that bodyi for the last six years, and wished himself ai-d family God speed. He presented Air' Baxter with a suit case as a memento from the Association. Airs Tooley (president of the Mothers’ Ur.ion) also wished the guests pi-os-perity in their new home, and thanked Mrs Baxter for the help she had given the Union. She presented Airs Baxter with a beautiful bouquet of carnations and roses. On rising to xespond, the recipientswere greeted with musical honours. Supper provided by the ladies was ■ much enjoyed, and a pleasant function was brought to a close with the sing-; mg of Aulcl Lang Syne.
