FARMERS’ DAY.

AT EXPERIMENTAL FARM. DEMONSTR ATIONS TO-MORROW. Organised mainly in the interests of potato and wheat growers, a field day for farmers will he held 1 in Ashburton to-morrow, the morning session being held in the Ashburton A. and P. Association’s rooms in the Arcade, and the afternoon session at the Experimental Farm. At the morning session, which will commence at 10 o’clock, the president of the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union (Mr H. C. B. Withell) will preside. It has been arranged that short addresses will be given by the following Government officials, all of whom are experts in their respective lines:— Messrs A. H. Cockayne (Director Fields Division), F. R. Callaghan (Dep art merit of Scientific and Industrial Research), J. C. Neill (Field Mycologist and Messrs J. W. Hadfield and A. W. Hudson (Department of Agriculture, Christchurch.) Some of these lecturers arrived in Ashburton yesterA very interesting day should result, and at i’.ls o’clock the field demonstrations at the Experimental Farm will commence. Visitors will bo enabled to inspect the plots which have been put down, at the farm, and will have explained to them the most recent work carried out in the control of diseases. A number of varieties, both local and imported, have.been tested out by Mr A. W. Hudson for several years, and the best of these are under trial again'this year. Mr Hudson will explain to visitors the results of his experimental work, both in connection with variety trials and the manuring of cereals. Such information should he of the greatest interest to every wheatgrower. - At the conclusion of the field demontrations, afternoon-tea will be served, and visitors will have an opportunity' of inspecting any department in which they are particularly interested. _ As excursion fares on the railway will be issued, a largo attendance is anticipated. j
