PERSONAL.
The Hon. W. Downie Stewart (Minister of Finance and Customs) passed through Ashburton on the _ second express for the north last evening. The Rev. A. G. Irvine left by motor this morning for Dunedin, Gore and Milton, where he will spend his annual vacation, extending over a month. Dr. C. J. Reakes (Director-General of Agriculture) will leave England next Saturday for South Africa. After a visit to various agricultural centres and institutes there, he will continue his journey to New Zealand via Australia, and is due at 'Wellington at the end of February, Mr E. V. Willers, who has filled the position of teller df the Timaru Branch of the Union Bank for the past two years, has been appointed accountant at the Oamaru Branch. Mr Willers 7s a son of Mr George Willers, of Ashburton, and was some years ago on the staff of the Bank’s local branch.
