A NEW GOVERNOR.

FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA. (Per Press Association —Copyright.) LONDON, January 6. Major-General the Hon. Alexander Hore-Ruthven, V.C., lias been ap pointed Governor of South Australia in succession to Sir Tom Bridges. Major-General the Hon. A. G. A. Hore-Ruthven is the seconcy son of the late Baron’Ruthven. Since 1924 ho has commanded the First Infantry Brigade (Guards). He joined the Army in 1891 in the Highland Light Infantry, and in 1898 was attached to tlie Egyptian Army in command of the Camel Corps, being awarded the Victoria Cross and Egyptian decorations for gallantry in action. He has been military secretary to tlie Viceroy of Ireland .and the Governor-General of Australia. During the European "War he served on Galipoli and in France, being severely wounded'. He was awarded the D. 5.0., C. 8., C.M.G., and was mentioned in dispatches on five occasions.
