SWIMMERS DROWNED.

WEST COAST FATALITIES. (Per Press Association). GREYMOUTH, December 30. The Grey River has in two days claimed two victims, both being young men of the same age, 26 years. Mr David Hyndman was drowned about 4 p.m. on Tuesday while swimming at Cobdcn, and Mr John Gibbs was drowned about 4 p.m. yesterday while swimming near Rocky Island at Dobson.

A native of Fifesbire, Scotland, and n_ miner by occupation, Mr Gibbs arrived at Dobson less than a week ago from Scotland. _ His father and brother have been in New Zealand about three months and reside at Dobson, but his mother and sister are still in Scotland. Accompanied by three or four other men, Mr Gibbs swam to Rocky Island, in midstream, and was on the return journey when ho sank. His mates attempted to save him, but failed, and' one of them, Mr Watkins, had a liar- j row escape from sharing his fate.
