THE METHVEN PARISH
ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW. The monthly meeting of the Vestry of the Methven Parochial District was held in the Parish Hall last evening.: There were, present: - The Rev. Francis A. Tooley (chairman), Messrs W. A.: Haden and H. Maginness (wardens), W. Morgan, Stanley Smith, G. Cookson, and J. Brawley. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs HH E. Richards and P. Cookson.
The sub-committee set up to prepare * the schedule for the flower show, which;! is to be held on September 30, submitted suggestions for amending<""the> > schedule, and the recommendations ■■ were adopted. A handsome silver rose: bowl valued at 14 guineas was donated by a well-wisher (who desired to remain anonymous) for competition at ; the annual shows for the best 24 varieties of narcissi. It is to be won three times v not necessarily in, successsion. This bowl replaces ,the silver J cup > won outright by Mr Bull, of Christchurch. A hearty vote of thanks waspassed to the donor, and Mr Smith was asked to convey this to the giver of the bowl.
The warden reported that he had:' attended to the matter in connection with stock-grazing on the land adjoining the Sunday school. He also reported that he had arranged to havethe piano tuned periodically. The condition of the approaches at. the entrances to St. Saviour's, High-' bank, was discussed, and the wardens was requested to write to the Road Board acquainting and asking it toplace culverts at both entrances. The question of investing the-legacy of £SOO, left to the church by the late ; Mr, William Ullyatt was discussedj" and : it was decided "to place the sum with Church Property Trustees for' ment in accordance with the terms of* the will.
